MACON TWP. — The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday morning on Ridge Highway near Welch Road in Macon Township.
Lenawee County Central Dispatch received a call at approximately 6:16 a.m. reporting a vehicle that had struck a tree. Deputies say a 2013 Ford Taurus was traveling southbound on Ridge Highway, north of Welch Road, when it left the roadway and hit a tree.
Dispatch later received information that the vehicle caught fire. The Ridgeway Township Fire Department extinguished the fire and discovered two occupants inside the vehicle, both deceased.
Authorities say the driver was a 17-year-old male from Dearborn. A 2-year-old child was secured in a rear child seat.
No other vehicles were involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
The Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team is assisting. The Tecumseh Police Department and Lenawee County Road Commission also responded.
