ADRIAN — The Adrian Dominican Sisters General Council has issued a statement decrying the practice of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers capturing and detaining children.

In the statement, the Sisters cited statistics from the Marshall Project, a nonpartisan investigative news organization, who reported that the detention of children has, quote, “skyrocketed, jumping more than sixfold since the start of the second Trump Administration.” unquote.

The Sisters also referred to the detention of 5-year-old Liam Ramos, who was photographed being apprehended by ICE in Minneapolis last month while wearing a rabbit-eared cap, and was one of 500 children who were held at the Dilley detention site in South Texas.

While quoting the Book of Matthew, the Sisters denounced what they called, “this cruel hindering of little children by our own government.”

The statement ended with a direct call to the Trump Administration, “to put an end to this inhumane treatment of the most vulnerable in our society – God’s precious little ones.”
