ADRIAN — The Lenawee County Board of Commissioners has approved a 90-day addendum to the Collective Bargaining Agreement to restructure juvenile detainment on-call duties.
The change follows statutory updates under Michigan’s juvenile justice reform. Under the new pilot program, on-call responsibilities will shift from the sitting judge to juvenile probation officers who volunteer to participate.
The positions are covered under the Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement. The proposed compensation is $300 per week for the identified probation officer assigned on-call duties.
County officials report that 75% of those wages are expected to be reimbursed through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Fund, pending allowable budget adjustments.
The 90-day pilot program will allow the county to evaluate the new structure before determining whether to make the change permanent.
