ADRIAN — The Warner trial began today (February 12) in Lenawee County’s 39th Circuit Court in the case of State of Michigan v. Dale Warner.
Dale Warner is charged with open murder in connection with the death of his wife, Dee Warner.
Day one focused on testimony from the victim’s counselor and her two adult daughters. The defense theory appeared centered on motive. Timeline was not significantly disputed in the testimony presented.
The counselor testified that sessions began in April 2021. The initial appointment lasted about two hours, with follow-up visits lasting roughly one hour every two weeks. The relationship was described as strictly professional, and the counselor confirmed never meeting Dale Warner.
During an April 24, 2021 session, the victim received two phone calls but did not answer them. The counselor testified they never observed red marks or bruises. “Relationship issues” were discussed, but no physical injuries were reported in testimony.
Both adult daughters testified consistently. They described regular Sunday routines in April 2021, including laundry and breakfast outings. Warner would sometimes attend those breakfasts. One daughter testified that many arguments occurred over the phone. Neither daughter testified to witnessing physical altercations.
Proceedings are expected to continue in circuit court tomorrow, February 13, at 9 a.m.
