MADISON TWP. — The Madison School District activated emergency safety protocols Wednesday after a hoax 911 call falsely reported a shooting on campus.
According to a letter sent to families by Superintendent Nick Steinmetz, the report was determined to be false and no students or staff were ever in physical danger.
District officials immediately coordinated with the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office upon receiving the report. Authorities were able to confirm there was no credible threat, identify the source of the call, and verify the continued safety of everyone on campus.
The district stated that student safety remains its top priority and that false emergency reports are taken seriously. Administrators are working with law enforcement to ensure legal consequences are pursued against the individual responsible.
School officials acknowledged the incident may be unsettling for families and encouraged parents to contact the school counseling office if students need support following the disruption.
No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
