MONROE TWP. — Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Monroe County.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post were dispatched Friday at 6:32 p.m. to South Telegraph Road near East Dunbar Road in Monroe Township. A 41-year-old woman was found with fatal injuries at the scene.
Police say troopers had earlier responded to reports of two pedestrians walking in and out of the roadway south of the intersection, but were unable to locate them at that time.
Emergency medical aid was provided by Monroe Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the crash occurred on a dark stretch of roadway without streetlights, with light snow, freezing winds, and snow-covered pavement. The driver is not suspected of intoxication.
The crash remains under investigation.
