ADRIAN — A skilled trades program in Adrian is among the projects receiving state support through Michigan’s Mass Timber Catalyst Program.

The Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute has been awarded $45,000, along with a year of technical assistance, to support an enrollment growth project that incorporates mass timber construction.

The funding is part of a broader $350,000 investment announced this week by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with Michigan State University. The program supports early-stage building projects that use engineered wood products as a primary structural or architectural material.

State officials say the Adrian project stands out for its focus on workforce development and skilled trades education, aligning construction innovation with job training.

In total, nine projects across the Lower Peninsula received awards.
