ADRIAN — Unwanted spam and robocall traffic has become a daily frustration for many Michigan residents, particularly calls that appear to come from familiar local numbers but turn out to be telemarketers.
State lawmakers have now approved new restrictions aimed at curbing those practices.
During a recent radio interview, State Sen. Joe Bellino outlined what the legislation is designed to do and why lawmakers say it’s a necessary first step.
Bellino noted the state’s authority is limited and said broader enforcement will depend on action beyond Michigan.
The bill originated in the Michigan House, has passed the Senate, and is headed to the governor. The law is scheduled to take effect in 2027, with enforcement handled through the Attorney General’s office.
