LANSING — The Michigan House of Representatives has adopted a bipartisan resolution declaring February 2026 as American Heart Month in Michigan.
The resolution, introduced by state Rep. Julie Rogers of Kalamazoo, is intended to raise awareness about heart disease and encourage preventive health care across the state.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, according to federal health data, with deaths occurring at a steady, frequent rate nationwide.
Lawmakers wore red on the House floor in recognition of National Wear Red Day and to highlight cardiovascular risks, particularly for women. State health advocates say pregnancy and menopause can increase risk, while gaps in care remain common.
The resolution emphasizes prevention, early detection, and public education as key strategies to reduce heart-related illness.
American Heart Month activities will take place statewide throughout February 2026.
