ADRIAN — After considerable debate, the Adrian City Commission denied an application for the rezoning of 1212 West Maumee Street at their regular meeting on Monday.
The owner of the property had previously asked the city’s Planning Commission to consider rezoning the area from a residential to a commercial property, so he could open a counseling office.
The Planning Commission had recommended that the City Commission deny the application, on the grounds that rezoning the property would create the potential for a larger business to open on the property.
Although Commissioners were receptive to the idea that Adrian needed a new counseling service, there was debate over whether having the service in the proposed location would actually create a nuisance to residents.
The Commission ultimately voted to deny the application, with Commissioner Aaron Chesher being the lone “no” vote.
