
LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced a series of appointments to state boards and commissions, including one with direct ties to Lenawee County.
Maria Peak, of Olivet, has been appointed to the Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services. Peak is an independent contractor and the former director of ASPPIRE of Mid-Michigan, with a background in special education and disability advocacy.
Peak previously worked as a special education teacher and as a project coordinator for the Michigan Transition Outcomes Project. She holds degrees from Lansing Community College and Eastern Michigan University and completed postgraduate studies at Western Michigan University.
The Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services advises the governor and state agencies on vocational rehabilitation programs and services for individuals with disabilities. The council works alongside Michigan Rehabilitation Services and the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons.
Peak’s term begins January 28 and runs through December 31, 2028.
Other appointments announced by the governor span health, education, juvenile justice and public safety boards statewide.
