ADRIAN — County commissioners reviewed a series of jail reentry purchases during Thursday’s Accounts Payable Committee meeting, focusing on items funded through a federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant.
The purchases included basic supplies such as backpacks, clothing items, and other materials tied to jail reentry programming. Commissioners asked for clarification on the purpose of the expenses and how they were funded.
County administrators explained the items are used to support individuals transitioning out of incarceration and back into the community. The supplies are intended to address immediate needs following release, particularly during winter months, when access to clothing and personal items can be limited.
Officials emphasized the purchases were fully funded through the Byrne JAG grant and did not use county general fund dollars. They also noted the expenditures were previously approved as part of the grant’s budget and align with its goal of supporting rehabilitation and reducing repeat offenses.
After the explanation, the committee raised no objections, and the expenditures were included in the final approval of accounts payable vouchers.
