Joyce Leone Shaffer, age 94, of Waldron, died Sunday evening, January 25, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. Born March 16, 1931, in Hillsdale County, she was the daughter of the late Bertie and Violet (Elliott) Day.
A lifelong area resident, Joyce was a graduate of Waldron High School. She married Paul W. Shaffer on January 17, 1951, in Fremont, IN. Together, they raised a family of seven children and celebrated over 67 years of companionship before his passing on March 29, 2018.
In addition to raising and spending time with her family, Joyce worked 16-year tenures at both Reading Industries and Kustom Fit. She enjoyed crafting and was proud of her houseplant collection. Joyce was a big John Wayne fan and enjoyed watching birds and sewing.
Surviving are two sons, Lyle Shaffer of Waterloo, IN, and Scott (Corena) Shaffer of Pioneer, OH; four daughters, Eileen (Joe) Shaffer of West Unity, OH, Rebecca (Alan) Stiverson of Hudson, Teresa Fuller of Edon, and Linda (Carlos) Grubbs of Hillsdale; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Shaffer of Nevada; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Junge of Holgate, OH.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robin Shaffer; daughter-in-law, Carol Shaffer, her four brothers, Glenn, Paul, Ronald, and Don Day; and a grandson.
Funeral services for Joyce will be held at Marry Funeral Home – Hudson Chapel, on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Jeremy Jones, officiating. Private interment will take place in Waldron Cemetery
