LANSING — The Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association has appointed a new member and filled an open officer position.

The council appointed Hudsonville Unity Christian CEO and principal Jerry DeGroot to represent private and parochial schools. DeGroot completes the second year of the term previously held by Catholic High School League director Vic Michaels, who died recently. DeGroot will serve through the council’s fall meeting in December. Member schools will vote to fill the position permanently this fall.

Camden-Frontier Superintendent Chris Adams was selected as secretary-treasurer. Adams was reelected to a two-year council term in September.

Fenton High School Principal Mike Bakker was also appointed to the MHSAA Audit and Finance Committee through the end of 2026.

The Representative Council serves as the legislative body of the MHSAA, which includes more than 1,500 member schools statewide.
