LANSING — The Michigan State Police are now accepting applications for two competitive public safety grant programs funded in the state’s fiscal year 2026 budget.

The grants are being administered through the Michigan State Police Grants and Community Services Division and are aimed at supporting cold case investigations and critical incident mapping across the state.

Under the first program, Michigan universities that currently operate, or plan to begin, a cold case program during fiscal year 2026 may apply for up to $200,000. The funding can be used for programmatic and operational expenses. Applications are due by noon on February 18.

A second grant opportunity is available to Michigan counties to support the development of public safety critical incident mapping. Counties may request up to $25,000 per grant, with each county eligible for up to three grants. Those applications are due by noon on March 4.

State police officials say the funding is intended to strengthen public safety efforts already underway across Michigan.

Additional details and application materials are available through the Michigan State Police Grants and Community Services Division website.
