
ADRIAN — Adoption continues to play a major role in strengthening families across Lenawee County, with dozens of adoptions finalized over the past two years.
According to county data, 63 adoptions were completed in 2024, including foster care, stepparent, relative, and adult adoptions. In 2025, 31 adoptions have were finalized through October 1.
Foster care adoptions accounted for the largest share in both years, followed by stepparent and adult adoptions. County officials say each adoption represents a permanent commitment to stability, care, and family connection.
Adoption in Lenawee County takes many forms, including foster care adoption, kinship adoption by relatives, stepparent adoption, direct placement, adult adoption, and, in some cases, Safe Delivery of Newborn placements.
