
Harold Joseph Marvin, Sr. “Smiley”, age 98, of Adrian, MI, passed away, January 9, 2026. He was born September 5, 1927, in Adrian, MI, the son of Robert & Roscine (Fischer) Marvin.
Harold was the sweetest, kindest, loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. He was a well known golfer in Lenawee County. He enjoyed playing cards on Tuesday nights with his kids. Harold loved spending winters in Florida for 30 years with his wife Darlene and son Dale.
Harold is survived by his wife of 35 years, Darlene (Schneider) Marvin and his eight children, H. Joseph Jr. “Joe” (Sally) Marvin, Dale Marvin, Dean (Becky) Marvin, Diane Wozniak, Patricia (John) Deshler, Michael (Judy) Marvin, Marsha Vaughn and Doris Garrison, 7 stepchildren, 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren; and two siblings, Thomas E. Marvin and Elizabeth J. Riley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marvin, his parents, Robert & Roscine Marvin; brother Stanley R. Marvin sister Rose Hauenstein and his twin brother, Gerald Marvin. Harold served his country during World War II in the US Navy from August 1944 to August 1945. He was a master motor machinist mate third class. Boot Camp at Samison, New York for nine weeks and served on the USS Buttress mine sweep ship in the Pacific Ocean. Harold started working at the Lenawee Country Club from age 12 until age 92 without missing a day of work. He worked as the Golf Course Superintendent for 35 plus years. Working at the golf course was his second home where he planted over 600 trees. Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2026, at Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI, with Rev. Larry Betz officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Adrian American Legion Honor Guard.
