FRENCHTOWN TWP. — Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies report a juvenile runaway has been safely recovered following an investigation that began Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Frenchtown Township on January 9 for a report of a missing 14-year-old female who had run away from home. Using a family tracking application, deputies determined the juvenile’s last known location was a Meijer store in Monroe, but were initially unable to locate her.

With assistance from Meijer staff, deputies reviewed surveillance video showing the juvenile leaving the store with an adult male and entering a vehicle. Investigators used license plate reader technology to identify the vehicle, which was linked to an Uber driver.

Based on information provided by the driver, deputies located both individuals in the City of Monroe. The juvenile was safely returned to her family.

The adult male was taken into custody for harboring a juvenile runaway. His name is being withheld pending arraignment. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Monroe County Central Dispatch or Crime Stoppers.
