LENAWEE CO. — Lenawee County Commissioner Kevon Martis is outlining recent county actions involving economic development funding, law enforcement technology costs, and statewide energy policy.
Martis says the county has approved a one-year, $150,000 contract with Lenawee Now, restoring its previous funding level. He notes the organization has helped bring more than $30 million in outside funding to Lenawee County for workforce development, trails, and local projects, and says the county will now hold a nonvoting liaison seat on the Lenawee Now board.
Martis also addressed a new 10-year contract with Axon for sheriff’s department equipment and evidence storage, costing about $400,000 per year. He says commissioners had limited options due to Axon’s market dominance, but negotiated the removal of automatic renewal language and clarified early-exit provisions.
In addition, Martis announced his support for former Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard’s campaign for governor and says Leonard has identified him as a potential Michigan Public Service Commission appointee, citing shared priorities on energy costs and regulatory oversight.
