ADRIAN — City of Adrian officials say motorists should expect traffic impacts as street construction moves forward this year, with the most significant disruptions tied to full road reconstruction projects.
According to City Engineer Matt Tomaszewski, all street preservation and construction techniques create some level of traffic impact, but reconstruction projects will require full closures to through traffic for the duration of the work. Other preservation methods will be designed to keep roads open as much as possible.
Reconstruction projects are expected to begin after July 1 and could last several months, depending on the scope of work and conditions.
Tomaszewski said the city’s approach focuses on using the most appropriate technique for each street to extend its lifespan. Preventative maintenance is prioritized to delay the need for more costly repairs, similar to maintaining a vehicle to avoid major engine replacement.
City officials also confirmed funding is set aside specifically for street preservation, while capital projects typically focus on base repairs, strengthening road foundations, or providing new riding surfaces.
Additional traffic details and timelines will be released as construction schedules are finalized.
