ADRIAN — The Adrian Fire Department is being recognized for saving an infant’s life during a rare and high-risk breech birth emergency.

City officials reported the incident during the Jan. 6 Adrian City Commission meeting. Firefighters and emergency responders were dispatched to assist with a delivery in which the infant was in severe distress and not breathing at birth.

According to city administration, responders performed immediate lifesaving care and CPR at the scene, successfully reviving the child before transport.

Officials said medical professionals later indicated the outcome was unlikely even if the delivery had occurred inside a hospital, highlighting the urgency and complexity of the situation.

The infant is now reported to be doing well.

City leaders publicly credited the fire department’s training, coordination and rapid response for the successful outcome, calling the incident an example of the department’s preparedness in extreme medical emergencies.

No additional details were released, and no civilians were identified.
