ADRIAN — The Adrian Community Academy is continuing its winter session with a 10-week series designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how city government and services operate in Adrian.
The academy meets Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30, beginning January 8, with weekly sessions hosted at city facilities across Adrian.
The program opens with a tour of City Hall, where participants will learn about the roles of the mayor, city administrator, commissioners and city offices. Future weeks include tours and presentations from the Department of Public Works, city and county clerks, Lenawee Transportation Authority, Community Development, Parks and Recreation, police, fire, finance and assessing, and the wastewater treatment plant.
Topics range from street maintenance, snow removal and budgeting to elections, transit planning, code enforcement, public safety and utility operations.
The academy concludes March 12 with a graduation ceremony at City Chambers. Participants must attend at least eight of the nine instructional weeks to be recognized.
The program is intended to encourage civic engagement and a better understanding of how local government functions.
