Former AC President Stanley Caine Dies

ADRIAN — Adrian College has released a statement honoring former college president Dr. Stanley Caine, who passed away last week at the age of 85.

Dr. Caine, who served as the 16th President of Adrian College from 1989 to 2005, died on December 29th after a six-year battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

During his presidency, President Caine guided Adrian College through “a period of significant transition in American higher education marked by shifting demographics, rising costs, and increased competition.”

Among his notable contributions were the construction of the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center, the expansion of the Shipman Library, and the transformation of the former Ridge Gymnasium into what is now the Caine Student Center, which was renamed in his honor following his presidency.

The statement from Adrian College remembered President Caine, “for his principled leadership, collaborative approach, and for his belief in the transformative power of a liberal arts education.”
