Charles was born on August 29, 1948, in Tecumseh, MI, the eleventh of thirteen children to Charles and Eleanor (Johnson) Lewis. He attended Onsted High School and graduated with the Class of 1967.
On August 23, 1969, Charles was united in marriage to Barbara Doyle. Over the next 56 years their story had many wonderful chapters. They were the proud parents of two children, Joe and Michelle. Charlie was an avid Detroit Tigers fan who always cheered them on regardless of how their season was going. Charlie liked to go bowling, play cards and visit the casino often. He was a sociable person who liked going out to eat at restaurants with his friends and sharing his sense of humor with them. Charlies’ career had him working in the automotive industry for Ford Motor Company at the Saline plant for over 37 years before retiring. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandkids and great grandkids.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by their son, Joe (Bobbie) Lewis, grandchildren; Arron (Kayla) Lewis, Kaylyn (Lafe) Ward, Krystina (Brandon) Meyer and CJ Lewis; 4 great-grandchildren, LJ Ward, Ezekiel Lewis, Vivian Ward, Beau Lewis, plus one on the way; brother, LeRoy (Sharleen) Lewis; sister, Shirley (Jay) Jackson; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss him greatly. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Michelle Lewis; siblings, Jerry, Raymond, Sherman, Pat, Audrey, Anna, and Sandy; great grandson, Izaiah, along with one niece, one nephew and one great nephew.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 5-8:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Larry Betz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial to follow at Lenawee County Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.
