MORENCI — Construction continues on the Morenci Fire Department burn lab training facility at Wakefield Park.
The multi-story burn lab is being built behind the Department of Public Works building and will provide a dedicated, controlled environment for hands-on firefighter training.
Officials report that crews recently set the third and final story of the structure, completing the exterior container placement. With all containers now in place, the project will move into the interior build-out phase, including cutting training windows and preparing the space for live-fire exercises.
The facility is being constructed using grant funding along with community donations.
The Morenci Fire Department also acknowledged assistance from local partners, including crane support, fabrication and cutting services, as well as help from Morenci DPW crews and local firefighters during installation.
Once completed, the burn lab is expected to serve as a long-term training resource, improving firefighter readiness and enhancing public safety across the Morenci area.
