MORENCI — The City of Morenci has been awarded $1.18 million in Community Development Block Grant funding to launch a new home improvement program for local residents.
The funding was awarded through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority as part of the MI Neighborhood Program, which focuses on housing preservation and neighborhood stability.
The money will support the Morenci Home Improvement Partnership Program, the city’s first large-scale home rehabilitation effort. The program is expected to assist about 40 middle- to low-income households with critical repairs.
Eligible improvements include roof and structural repairs, heating and cooling upgrades, insulation, siding, and window or door replacement. City officials say the work will improve safety, energy efficiency, and long-term housing stability.
A portion of the funding will be used to hire a third-party administrator to manage the program and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
Applications for homeowner assistance are expected to open in early 2026, with additional details to be released as the program is finalized.
