MACKINAW CITY — The Mackinac Bridge has reopened after a temporary closure Saturday afternoon due to what officials described as an active situation.
According to MLive, the bridge was shut down for more than an hour on Saturday, December 27. The Mackinac Bridge Authority said traffic was stopped just before 3 p.m. and reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
Officials did not release details about the nature of the situation but said the closure was necessary for safety. Emergency vehicles, including a fire engine, were seen on the bridge during the shutdown, based on images from the authority’s live camera feed.
The five-mile bridge connects Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas and is a critical travel route, especially during holiday weekends.
Traffic resumed without further incident, and the authority has not announced any ongoing restrictions.
