DETROIT — A Wayne County educator is being recognized for excellence in education by the Michigan Lottery.
LaTasha Thomas, an assistant principal at Davison Elementary-Middle School in Detroit, has received a weekly Excellence in Education award from the Michigan Lottery. The school is part of the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
The Excellence in Education program was created in 2014 to honor outstanding public school educators across Michigan during the school year.
Weekly award recipients receive a $2,000 cash prize. One winner will later be selected as the Lottery’s Educator of the Year and will receive an additional $10,000.
Thomas was nominated by a former student and has worked in education for 18 years, including the past two years as an assistant principal.
Officials say her work focuses on student leadership, academic growth, and long-term success beyond the classroom.
