
ERIE TWP. — A fatal traffic crash is under investigation in Monroe County following a crash reported yesterday afternoon.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 1:38 p.m. Thursday to South Telegraph Road, southwest of East Temperance Road, in Erie Township.
Investigators say a vehicle traveling southwest left the roadway for unknown reasons, entered a ditch, and struck a tree. The vehicle then overturned and came to rest back on the roadway.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Airbags in the vehicle did deploy.
Erie Township Fire, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Sheriff’s Office Chaplain and Victim Services Unit assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
