LANSING — Michigan drivers continue to show pride and personality on the road, according to new data from the Michigan Department of State.
The agency reports more than 11.7 million license plates are currently in circulation statewide. More than 70% feature the white Pure Michigan design, making it the most common plate on the road.
The blue-and-yellow Water-Winter Wonderland plate is the second most popular, followed closely by the Mackinac Bridge design. Older plates, including the Spectacular Peninsulas design, also remain in circulation.
Newer legacy plates, reintroduced this year to support road funding, are gaining early traction, led by the black-and-white Great Lake State plate.
Veteran plates remain a strong presence, with more than 136,000 issued across service branches, led by Army veterans.
University fundraising plates total more than 122,000 statewide, with Michigan State University and the University of Michigan accounting for the largest share.
Special cause and organization plates also continue to grow, supporting wildlife conservation, public safety, veterans, and charitable foundations.
More information on plate options is available through the Secretary of State.
