LANSING — The Michigan House of Representatives has unanimously approved medical price transparency legislation sponsored by State Senator Jonathan Lindsey.

The bill would require hospitals to publicly disclose the costs of medical treatments, procedures, and services in clear, accessible terms for patients.

The legislation also prohibits hospitals from collecting medical debt if they are not in compliance with existing price transparency requirements.

Lindsey said the measure is intended to help patients better understand potential medical charges and reduce unexpected financial burdens tied to health care.

He also said increased transparency is a necessary step toward improving health outcomes and addressing long-standing cost pressures facing Michigan families.

The bill, Senate Bill 95, previously passed the Michigan Senate and cleared the Legislature with a combined total of 141 yes votes.

The measure now moves one step closer to becoming law.
