LENAWEE CO. — Lenawee County has launched a nine-month pilot program expanding recycling drop-off options in three local communities.

Beginning December 10, residents can use new recycling dumpsters in Onsted, Blissfield and Hudson, in addition to the existing site at River and Race streets in Adrian. The new locations are at 125 East Second Street in Onsted, the Bachmayer parking lot on North Lane Street in Blissfield, and the 100 block of Mechanic Street in Hudson near the trail.

County officials say the pilot is aimed at expanding recycling access for residents who do not have curbside service. The project is funded through a Materials Management Planning grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

The drop-off sites accept paper and cardboard, plastics numbered one through seven, aluminum cans and glass. All items must be clean and dry, and boxes should be broken down. Materials are collected as co-mingled recycling.

The county is asking residents to use the dumpsters responsibly and avoid illegal dumping. Service will be provided twice weekly throughout the pilot.

County officials and participating municipalities will review the program after the trial period to determine next steps.
