ADRIAN — The Adrian Public Schools Board of Education is considering placing a community recreational facility proposal on the May ballot.
During its Monday meeting, the board reviewed the first reading of a bond proposal to build a new facility adjacent to Adrian High School. District officials said the plan follows a facilities assessment and community input gathered during the 2023–2024 school year, identifying a need for additional recreational space for students and residents.
Superintendent Nate Parker told the board the proposal would no longer include a community pool after polling and public forums showed insufficient support for a higher millage. The revised plan would maintain a .65-mill increase, raising an estimated $27.5 million.
For a home valued at $200,000, the projected cost would be about $65 per year, or just over $5 per month. Officials said the reduction is possible through a two-series bond strategy that lowers interest costs.
The board is scheduled to vote on final approval during a special meeting on December 17 to meet state ballot deadlines. If approved, the proposal would go before voters in May.
