LANSING — Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Aric Nesbitt has announced a new education proposal called the Make it in Michigan Education Plan.

The plan outlines a four-part approach aimed at improving student performance and raising Michigan’s national education rankings. Nesbitt points to low reading and math proficiency rates among Michigan students and argues that early literacy and stronger accountability are needed to reverse current trends.

Among the proposals is a Read by Third Grade initiative, which would place literacy coaches in elementary schools and expand tutoring and scholarship options for students who fall behind.

The plan also emphasizes career and technical education, including skilled trades training, dual enrollment opportunities, and industry-recognized credentials.

Additional priorities include expanded school choice, increased transparency for parents, evaluating educators based on student progress, and addressing chronic absenteeism.

Nesbitt is the current Michigan Senate minority leader and a candidate in the 2026 race for governor. More details are available through his campaign’s education policy release.
