LENAWEE CO. — The Lenawee County Department on Aging is urgently seeking volunteer drivers to help deliver meals to older adults throughout December.

Several longtime volunteers are temporarily unavailable, creating an immediate need to maintain home-delivered meals and regular wellness checks during the winter months.

Department officials say volunteers do not need to make a long-term commitment. Drivers can participate as their schedule allows, whether that’s once a week, once a month, or even just a single day.

The department reports that most delivery routes take about one hour and cover short distances. No special training is required, and new volunteers can ride along with experienced drivers to learn the process.

Volunteers may deliver alone or as a pair, making it an option for friends, spouses, or coworkers to serve together. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Officials stress that even limited help can make a significant difference for homebound older adults, especially during cold weather and the holiday season.

Anyone interested in volunteering or learning more is asked to contact the Lenawee County Department on Aging at 517-264-5280.
