KALAMAZOO — Michigan lawmakers have introduced an 11-bill vaccination legislation package in response to rising waiver requests and increased measles activity nationwide.

State Reps. Matt Longjohn of Portage and Julie Rogers of Kalamazoo said the plan would strengthen transparency, maintain insurance coverage for all recommended immunizations and give families clearer information when choosing schools and childcare centers.

The proposal would also organize statewide immunization rate data so families can evaluate public health conditions without compromising privacy. Rogers is sponsoring a bill that would formally designate the Michigan Advisory Committee on Immunizations as the state’s guideline-setting authority.

Lawmakers said the goal is to preserve parental choice while improving access to reliable, evidence-based information.

The package now moves to the Michigan House for committee review.
