MONROE CO. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Amazon this holiday season to help reduce holiday package theft across the community.
The effort is part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Sheriff’s Association to promote simple steps residents can take to prevent porch piracy.
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said package theft continues to strain limited law enforcement resources during the busiest time of year, and added that preventive measures allow deputies to stay focused on emergency calls.
The department is encouraging residents to track deliveries in real time, specify hidden drop-off locations, use Amazon pickup sites, share tracking details with trusted contacts, and check delivery confirmation photos. Customers in eligible areas can also select specific Same-Day Delivery windows.
If theft does occur, residents in Monroe County should report it to Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070, contact Amazon customer service, and check with neighbors.
The Sheriff’s Office says the partnership aims to keep the community safer throughout the holiday season.
