
Arnold Lloyd Smith, age 90, of Morenci, passed away Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2025, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility while under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born January 8, 1935, in Morenci, to Trevor and Flossie (Krantz) Smith. Arnold married Carol Jean McCaskey on September 27, 1959, in Morenci. Together, they raised two daughters and celebrated over 52 years devoted companionship before her sudden passing on October 6, 2011.
Arnold proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Returning to civilian life, Arnold worked as a grocer with former A&P Store in Morenci until its closure, then for the Tecumseh and Adrian locations. Prior to retirement, he also worked in maintenance at the Dominican Life Center. In retirement, he assisted in serving families at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian for several years. He was a member of Sand Creek Community Church, the American Legion Post 368 in Morenci and a 31-year member of the Morenci Fire Department. A lover of the outdoors, Arnold enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and taking care of his lawn. Later in life, he enjoyed attending the various events of his grandchildren.
Arnold is survived by his two daughters, Laurie (Ronald) Williams of Sand Creek and Karen Hallett of Adrian; five grandchildren, Kassandra Gray, Andrew (Jessica) Roddy, Brandon Williams, Lauren (Bryan) Bell, and Cole Hallett; four great-grandchildren, Logan Gray, Grady and Joie Roddy and Ryan Bell; and an additional great-granddaughter on-the-way. In addition to his wife, Carol, he is preceded in his death by his parents; four brothers, William, Ray, Burton and Sidney Smith; and one sister, Julia Wilson.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. William Van Valkenburg officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Morenci.
Memorial contributions can be made to the benefit Hospice of Lenawee or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been made with the guidance of the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
