LANSING — Every year, the U.S. Labor Department updates its list of professions that have disappeared from modern reporting.
A recent survey by resume.io asked more than 3,000 people ages 45 and older which lost jobs they miss most and Michiganders went straight for nostalgia.
Topping the list is gas-station attendant; once the person who filled your tank, cleaned your windshield, and asked how your weekend was. Rounding out the top five are arcade attendant, VHS repair technician, video-rental clerk, and bowling-alley pin-setter.
Respondents also cited memories of older office relics, including typewriters and the smell of fresh photocopies. The 1980s was named the work era most people would bring back, followed by the 1990s.
Career expert Amanda Augustine says the findings show people miss the atmosphere of work as much as the tasks.
