LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer personally reached out to actively deployed members of the Michigan Army and Air National Guard to wish them a happy Thanksgiving and thank them for their service.

Whitmer emphasized that service members represent “the best of us” and noted that many are spending the holiday away from their families to protect national safety. Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist also encouraged residents to take time to honor their sacrifice and reflect on their commitment.

State officials say more than 900 Guard members from Michigan are currently deployed overseas in support of U.S. Central and European Command missions, including assignments in Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan and Kosovo.

Units involved include the 1171st Medical Company out of Ypsilanti, the 745th Explosive Ordnance Detachment from Grayling, the 3-238th General Support Aviation Battalion based in Grand Ledge and the 127th Wing Expeditionary Air Base from Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
