LANSING — Fifty new Michigan State Police troopers will begin serving communities across the state next week after graduating today from the 149th Trooper Recruit School in Lansing.
During the ceremony, MSP Director Col. James Grady administered the Oath of Office. Governor Gretchen Whitmer thanked the recruits for their service commitment and noted recent public safety investments totaling more than $1.6 billion since she took office.
The 20-week training program included patrol procedures, criminal law, cultural diversity, firearms instruction, defensive tactics and precision driving.
Outstanding cadets were recognized in categories such as performance, team building, fitness, academics, marksmanship and driving excellence.
With the 50 additions, Michigan now has approximately 1,145 troopers statewide.
Recruitment continues for trooper schools beginning in January. Interested candidates can learn more at the state police website.
