LENAWEE CO. — Lenawee County officials are reminding residents to plan ahead this Thanksgiving to reduce food waste.
According to a recent post from the county’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division, thoughtful preparation and creative reuse of leftovers can help prevent Thanksgiving food waste and stretch meals into the days after the holiday.
The guidance recommends organizing refrigerator space early, using containers, and freezing items like stuffing, rolls, gravy, and cranberry sauce. Turkey and potatoes are best eaten within a few days.
The county also highlights homemade turkey stock as a simple way to repurpose the carcass, and offers meal ideas such as pot pies and potato cakes to avoid waste.
Officials say freezing prepared foods can help families save time, money, and reduce stress during the holiday weekend.
