ADRIAN — The City of Adrian has voted to reactivate their Human Relations Commission after a 2-year period of dormancy, with newly elected City Commissioner Aaron Chesher to act as representative.
At the City Commission’s regular meeting on Monday, officials passed a resolution to reinstate the HRC in a 6 to 1 vote.
In 2023, the city held discussions about disbanding the HRC altogether, resulting in public backlash from the LGBTQ+ community, but no action was taken.
WLEN News spoke with Commissioner Chesher after the meeting.
That was Adrian City Commissioner Aaron Chesher.
Only Commissioner Chip Moore voted “no” in the roll call vote.
He commented during the meeting that his decision was a rebuke of Chesher’s endorsement from the Democratic Party, despite the fact that the City Commission and HRC are nonpartisan.
