ADRIAN — The City of Adrian is reminding residents about key winter ordinances and safety requirements as the season approaches.

Residents are asked to keep all trash and recycling totes out of the street on collection days. Those living next to alleyways should also cut back vegetation so snowplows can get through.

During a declared snow and ice emergency, no vehicles may be left on the road until the order is lifted.

Drivers are advised to stay at least 200 feet behind a plow truck, and 20 feet when the truck is stopped at an intersection.

City ordinance also prohibits pushing or depositing snow into the street. Sidewalk snow and ice must be cleared by noon if it fell overnight, or by noon the following day for daytime accumulation. Sand or salt should be used if full removal isn’t possible.

The city also encourages residents to check mailbox stability. Reimbursement up to $75 is only available if a plow physically strikes a mailbox.
