Raymond “Jay” Cavender, age 70, went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with vascular dementia. He passed peacefully with his children by his side.  Jay was born on July 15, 1955, in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Raymond “Bill” Cavender and Maradeen Cavender.  He is survived by his daughter, Heather (Rob) Thompson, and their children Owen Kennedy, Graham Thompson, and Blair Thompson; and by his son, Brandon Cavender. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Evelyn Thompson.  Jay was truly one of a kind and lived life on his own terms, always adapting with strength and humor. He deeply cherished his children and grandchildren. Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, Jay was famous for his off-the-wall comebacks that could make anyone laugh.  Jay had a lifelong passion for flying and boating. He was happiest in the air or on the water. Among his favorite aircraft were his 1952 Cessna 195 and his 1945 Piper Cub, which held some of his most treasured memories with his children.  An accomplished and respected aviator, Jay earned his single-engine, multi-engine, and seaplane ratings. He owned and operated Classic Flight Inc. in Brooklyn and restored vintage aircraft as an A&P mechanic with IA certification. Jay was well regarded throughout the aviation community. He was proud of his induction into the Quiet Birdmen and served for many years as a Vintage Judge at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh. Over the years, he restored multiple aircraft that went on to receive the prestigious Grand Champion award.  A memorial luncheon in Jay’s honor will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at Aggie’s Sports Bar in Napoleon, MI. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.  Arrangements with Purse Funeral Home.  www.PurseFuneralHome.com
