ADRIAN — Lenawee County Commissioners received a legislative update this week from Michigan Association of Counties Executive Director Steve Currie, who highlighted major policy priorities and statewide impacts for local governments heading into 2026.

Currie outlined MAC’s top initiatives, including efforts to reform the state’s revenue sharing system, secure a long-term solution for court funding before statutory authority expires in 2026, and ensure local governments are reimbursed for veterans’ property tax exemptions.

He also reviewed the new road-funding plan, which is expected to generate between $1.5 billion and $1.85 billion per year, including a 35.5% increase for county road agencies.

Currie also announced the dates for MAC’s upcoming conferences: April 27–29 in Lansing and September 9–11 in Acme.

The board accepted the update as part of its regular business, with Currie encouraging counties to stay engaged as legislative negotiations continue into 2026.
