Helen was born at home on June 18, 1921, in Woodstock Township, Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Sarah (Bates) Route. She graduated from Addison High School.
On November 29, 1945, Helen was united in marriage to Elwyn E. Outman at the Onsted Baptist Church parsonage. They celebrated 62 years together before Elwyn’s death on April 11, 2008.
Helen was employed at Bixby Hospital in the housekeeping department for over 20 years, where she made many friends. Helen retired from Bixby in 1985.
Helen was blessed to have wonderful nieces and nephews and is survived by Rae Ann Jones, Robert Outman, Barbara Thompson, and Erva Manley along with many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Elwyn, Helen was preceded in death by her sisters and nephew, Eric Outman.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Following the gathering a luncheon will be held at the home of her great niece, Maryalice (Joseph) Nick. Inurnment will be held privately at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted.
