LENAWEE CO. As Michigan braces for colder months, the week of November 9th through the 15th has been declared Winter Hazards Awareness Week in support of statewide winter preparedness efforts.

Severe winter weather brings increased health and safety risks, including cold temperatures, freezing pipes, power outages, and potential propane shortages.

This week, officials urge residents to take proactive steps, such as preparing emergency kits, inspecting heating systems and fuel supplies, and protecting plumbing by insulating pipes.

Residents are encouraged to share preparedness information throughout their neighborhood, workplaces, and social networks to bolster resilience.

For more information, you can download a full Winter Weather Hazards Packet from the Michigan State Police’s MiReady program by visiting Michigan.gov/MIready.

Residents can also sign up for local alerts through Smart911 in Lenawee County.
