ADRIAN — A 19-year-old man has pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in connection with a 2023 shooting that left a Lenawee County man dead.
According to Lenawee County Circuit Court documents, 19-year-old Trenton Berry entered a no-contest plea on Monday, November 3rd.
WTOL 11 reports that Berry entered the plea following concerns about civil liability, claiming a lack of memory regarding the incident.
Documents indicated that the court accepted the plea deal, which stated that a then-17-year-old Berry caused the death of 41-year-old Kirt Stubbins, who was shot and killed during a hunting outing in Rollin Township.
According to the Lenawee County Sheriff, Stubbins was in a relationship with Berry’s mom at the time of the incident.
All other counts in the case will be dismissed against Berry at his sentencing, which is scheduled for January 30th, 2026.
In Michigan, second-degree murder is punishable by up to life in prison.
