LANSING — Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg says the ongoing federal government shutdown is preventing the release of key national jobs data for a second consecutive month.

In a statement from Washington, Walberg accused Democrats of prolonging the shutdown and said the lack of updated employment numbers adds to uncertainty for businesses and workers trying to gauge the strength of the economy.

He said the data is essential for policymakers and employers to make informed decisions, and claimed the shutdown is leaving families struggling with bills and job insecurity.

Walberg called for reopening the government and returning to what he described as a “pro-growth agenda,” from the Trump administration.

The Labor Department has not indicated when the next round of federal employment data will be released.
